Emerging from the small town of Ypsilanti Michigan in 2018, Freedom From Concern (often referred to as FFC) raised from the freshly filled grave of their sentimentally held high school punk band Spooky Basements. Founded by Singer/Bassist (toilet puncher) Jay Maronen, Guitarist/Singer (secretly not Batman) Colin Robertson, and Drummer (“I’m not even tired!”) Ian McDonald. In 2020 FFC released their first album Because, Maybe. It dealt with the awkward and demanding stage of newfound adulthood, suicidal ideation, and their view of politics from a progressive lens, all while hammering in an optimistic objective with brutal Ahegao inducing intensity. “Our world is clay for us to shape, so let us sculpt it how we like” In 2021 FFC released their second album, self titled Freedom From Concern. Developing the bright sound of Because, Maybe into a contrasting shadowy timbre. They explored their musical boundaries with experimental tracks and themes. The album revolves around a fading sense of meaning inspired by a year of deep critical reflection due to COVID-19 lockdowns. “Your smile from yesterday is my new religion” “Being free from concern is more of a goal of how I think one should be, like an aspiration. It’s to dare to look on the bright side even when it stings the eyes.” -Jay
